Jann Arden is a favorite
in our house. We love her music! She has a new album coming
out that we are looking forward to.
Arden began her music
career in the late 1980's in her hometown of
Calgary, Alberta.
She sang with various long-defunct bands until she was "discovered" singing
Olivia Newton-John covers. Jann turned to writing her own songs,
and success came gradually. Having to overcome some rough times in
the early years, she's now in top form with the release of her third album
in 1997.
1993 saw Jann's debut
album, "Time for Mercy" hit the record stores,
producing the singles "I Would Die For You" and "Will You Remember
Me". For these efforts, Jann won the Junos for Best New Artist
and Best Video at the 1994 Juno Awards.
Jann's next album was
1994's multiple-platinum "Living Under June." Singles
from that album included "Could I Be Your Girl", which was
featured in a Baywatch episode, and "Insensitive", which was
included in the Christian Slater movie Bed of Roses. This album
earned Junos in 1995 for Best Single, Best Songwriter, and
Female Vocalist of the Year.
"Happy?"
is the ambiguous title of Jann's latest CD. And ambiguous is the
nature of the album, with songs both melancholy and hopeful. But
so far, public response to the album, and its first single "The Sound
Of", has only been positive.
Jann's CD "Greatest
Hurts" has 16 excellent tracks on it. She was here in Vancouver,
BC a few months ago and had to do two shows as the first sold out and the
2nd one did too. "Greatest Hurts" I think is the best she has done.
Aside from appearing
at the BC Cancer Foundation Benefits Concert in Vancouver, BC, Canada,
Jann is busy promoting her new album, Jann Arden Live with the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and a book of selected journal entries
called "If I Knew, Don't You Think I'd Tell You?"
More new CD's on next
page.
Jann received the Juno
Award for 2002 for best songwriter.
