Mom's entire life was filled with physical and mental abuse. She also had poor health, having had 13 operations by the time I was 10 years of age. When I was 15 and my brother 14, Mom brought us here to Vancouver, B.C. Canada. We were all born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She left behind my abusing father. She loved the ocean and the mountains here and the climate too. Mom put herself through nursing school and worked for many years as a nurse in Naniamo, B.C. Canada where she had moved to when my brother & I left home to make our own lives. She travelled a lot and spent 5 years living in the Bahamas doing missionary work.
Mom's health never did improve. She had breast cancer 15 years ago and had to have a double mastectomy. Mom never smoked, nor drank, even socially. She always ate nutritious, healthy foods and swam a lot. She did synchronized swimming for awhile. In the fall of 1998 she found out she had liver cancer and even with treatments, there was no hope. Mom was gone May 6, 1999.
I have yet to get over her loss. My grieving seems to have no end in sight. I know Mom was in a lot of pain and at least she is finally free of the pain. She is greatly missed and there is a hole in my heart that will not mend.
